GM Ignition Switch Lawsuits – 1-800-932-0979

In a review commissioned by a consumer watchdog group, the Friedman Research Group at least 303 fatal accidents recorded in the federal Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) database where the front air bags did not deploy according to the Washington Post. What is shocking is that this review involved just two of six models recalled by GM, the 2005-2007 Chevrolet Cobalt and the 2003-2007 Saturn Ion.

As you may know, the faulty ignition switch used on millions of GM vehicles disabled the air bag deployment mechanism. As a result, when an accident occurred the front air bags would not deploy depriving the driver and front passenger of a critical safety protection.

The National Highway Safety Administration has been accused of failing to act on warnings signs or not aggressively pursuing complaints. General Motors did its own share of cover up and negligent disregard of its duties to investigate and supervise its employees according to a report commission, the Valukas Report. The report found that GM knew of the the ignition switch was problematic as early as 2002.

That is an astonishing 12 yeaers ago. 12 years before the recall. GM allegedly was informed of vehicles stalling from customers and dealers. Several GM working groups looked into the problem but not one bothered to follow through and make sure the issue was fixed. This fact has resulting in plaintiffs seeking to reopen cases that had been settled with GM such as that of Brooke Melton in Georgia.

SIGNIFICANT INJURIES

If you or a loved one suffered significant injuries or death it is advisable that you hire an attorney to represent you. As reported above, just two models were involved in over 300 deaths.   If the accident involved frontal impact and the air bags did not deploy there is substantial likelihood that the faulty ignition switch may have played a role.
