TVT Sling Lawyer – Judgment Against Ethicon

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) and Ethicon ordered by a West Virginia jury to pay $3.27 million to a woman for a vaginal-mesh implant that  eroded inside her requiring corrective surgery.

The product in question is the Tension-free Vaginal Tape-O sling used as treatment for incontinence. The tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) procedure provides support for the urethra so it remains closed when you cough or move vigorously. We the urethra closed there is no accidental urine discharge.

Ethicon has more than 30,000 lawsuits alleging defectively designed vaginal inserts, such as the slings, that damaged women’s organs and made sex painful pending according to Bloomberg News.

Stress Urinary Incontinence

The Mayo Clinic describes Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) as  the unintentional loss of urine. Stress incontinence happens when physical movement or activity — such as coughing, sneezing, running or heavy lifting — puts pressure (stress) on your bladder. It occurs when the muscles and other tissues that support the bladder and the muscles that regulate the release of urine grow weak from things such as child birth and obesity.

Symptoms of SUI include urine leakage when you:

  • Cough
  • Sneeze
  • Laugh
  • Stand up
  • Get out of a car
  • Lift something heavy
  • Exercise
  • Have sex
